Or if you like, his beliefs are not fixed or certain. There is nothing fundamental in his beliefs. Those he has, can be described as being on a spectrum of beliefs, a bit like gender beliefs.
Thus he once bbelieved women could have penises. But he has swung the other way, now he believes only 1% of women can have penises. Exactly where, on the party’s cockometer of penises swings his belief rests, depends on who he is talking to.
So too, on nationalisation. He once believed that all the utilities, including the railway companies, should be re-nationalised. Now he denies he ever believed in such policies. He is on a spectrum of nationalisation beliefs, dependent upon which Union he is talking to.
And with Corbyn. He believed Corbyn would make a great prime minister and avidly supported him on platforms across the nation, standing side by side advocating the qualities of his leader, telling the world that Corbyn was the man. Now he believes Corbyn is not even fit to be in the party, he should be de-platformed and shoved down the memory hole of party history. Orwell and Stalin would understand the spectrum of beliefs that delivered such a result.
Immigration is another spectrum issue. He can sympathise with those who would welcome everyone who wishes to come here and simultaneously with those who express concern at the numbers. It depends upon who he is talking to.
So it was on Brexit, although we can be sure he hopes we have forgotten. He was a remainer one day (most days) willing to ignore or undermine the democratic vote of the referendum, and on other days, he was a Brexitier who just wanted to re-negotiate the deal and have a second referendum. It was impossible to pin him down as to where on the spectrum of beliefs he would take a stand.
He can trans across the spectrum of belief, self-identifying as whoever you want him to be.
