Feasting in Edinburgh

We dined, Patricia and I, at the First Coast restaurant on the Dalry Road in Edinburgh. ( prononced Dalrye) So good was the food and the experience that I was moved to write a poem in praise of such a feast of meats. Apoligies to Rabbi Burns.

A Poem with an asterisk*

Cone all ye Scottish vegans, an’ yer kilted vegetarians

Wi yer lentil porridge an’ yer sporran full au carrots, sustainable, organic an’ gluten-free

Come ye to Dalry Road, ter the fist coast ter see Scots feasting on meats ‘till they die young, – but happy

Weep at the intestinal haggis an’ the chicken liver curry,

greet at the mutton and mussels suet pudding,

wail at the ham hock an’ the slice of a highland doric beast called Angus

Happy are the First Coast diners

Feasting on meats,* maybe they’ll die young – but happy

While ye, ye lentileers

Live yer joyless hundred years.

*Vegetarian options are available on the menu
